Biography
Janice Langbehn embarked on her professional journey in social work, dedicating significant years to Child Protective Services across Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis counties. Her 18-year tenure with the State of Washington involved impactful work with over 1,000 children and families alongside raising her own four adopted children. Janice holds two master's degrees in Social Work and Public Administration.
Transitioning from her social work career, Janice became a prominent advocate for the LGBT community, focusing on equitable treatment for families during hospital visitations. Her efforts were nationally recognized in 2011 when President Barack Obama honored her with the Presidential Citizen’s Medal, the second highest civilian accolade.
With experience as a Guardian ad Litem, Janice pursued a career in family law, earning her Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law in May 2018. During her time there, she actively participated in various groups, including serving as co-president of OUTLaws (the LGBT student law society), president of the Student Bar Association, member of the Moot Court Board, student editor of the Seattle Journal for Social Justice, and Diversity Representative of the Student Bar Association.
Janice is currently serving on the Washington State Bar Association’s Diversity Committee and is part of the Q-Law and Family Law sections. She is also affiliated with the American Bar Association, and the Pierce and King County Bar Associations.
With a strong focus on advocacy, Janice Langbehn's career has been centered around supporting families through complex family law matters such as custody disputes, adoption, surrogacy, and legal dissolutions. Her commitment to serving families is evident in her comprehensive legal and social work experience.
