James R. "Jim" Howie

Jim's practice centers on litigation, focusing on personal injury litigation, insurance claims, and medical malpractice on behalf of victims. Jim is committed to helping clients navigate recovery from difficult life events, ensuring they receive fair compensation for their injuries and life changes. His experience includes trials before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal. He has also represented clients at various tribunals, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.

Jim is actively involved in the legal community, having led and participated in personal injury programs for numerous legal professional bodies. He has held leadership positions, including Past President of the Toronto Lawyers Association and Past Director of The Advocates Society. Currently, Jim serves on the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto's Council. He regularly contributes to legal education through presentations and publications in platforms such as Canadian Defence Lawyers, Lexpert®, and Insight, and lectures on auto insurance at Osgoode Hall Law School.

The Ontario Superior Court has recognized Jim's qualifications in personal injury law. Jim's professional accolades include repeated mentions on the "Best Lawyers in Canada" list, the "Lexpert® Directory of Legal Experts," and the National Post's List of Best Lawyers in Canada. In November 2018, Jim received the "Plaintiff Lawyer of the Year" award from the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.

Beyond his legal work, Jim founded the St. Michael's Hospital Head Injury Clinic annual Charity Golf Tournament, serving multiple times as Chairman and raising over $100,000 annually for the Clinic. His community service extends to his past directorship with the non-profit Brain Injury Association of Toronto.
