James L. "Jim" Vigmond CS

James L. Vigmond has practised personal injury litigation on behalf of plaintiffs for more than 35 years. He is a former president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) and the Simcoe County Law Association, and he continues to play an active role within Ontario’s personal injury bar. Based in Barrie, Ontario, Jim practises with Oatley Vigmond LLP, where he works closely with a team of lawyers and support staff on complex Medical Negligence and Personal Injury Litigation matters, including spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and serious orthopaedic claims.

Jim has been recognized by his peers in The Best Lawyers in Canada from 2006 to 2019. He holds a litigation certification from the Law Society of Upper Canada and is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and the American College of Trial Lawyers. Jim has written and presented extensively on personal injury litigation and trial advocacy for organizations such as OTLA, the Canadian Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association, and The Advocates’ Society.

Jim has appeared as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario. OTLA has retained him on numerous occasions to intervene before the Ontario Court of Appeal. He has participated as counsel in every case in which the Court has considered issues relating to catastrophic impairment. In 2016, Jim received a lifetime achievement award from the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
