James A. Rice, Jr. is a partner and founder of Rice McGowan & Brandt in Atlanta, Georgia. He represents individuals and families in personal injury and wrongful death litigation throughout Georgia, with a practice that includes catastrophic injury claims, negligent security cases, premises liability matters, motor vehicle accidents, and products liability litigation.

Jim Rice has more than 30 years of litigation experience handling complex personal injury and product liability cases. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in the practice areas of Personal Injury Litigation - Plaintiffs and Product Liability Litigation - Plaintiffs.

Over the course of his career, Jim has represented clients in high-stakes litigation involving serious injuries, defective products, and wrongful death claims. In 2023, Jim and his trial team secured a $58 million recovery in a negligent security case involving a major international retailer.

Jim has received recognition from independent legal publications and rating organizations. He has been included in the Georgia Super Lawyers list for multiple consecutive years and has also been recognized among the Top 100 Georgia Super Lawyers by Thomson Reuters. In addition, he holds an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized by Georgia Trend Magazine as part of its Legal Elite.

Before focusing his practice on representing plaintiffs, Jim represented corporations and insurance companies in civil litigation matters. Jim earned his Juris Doctor, with Honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
