James A. Funt is a Philadelphia criminal defense and civil litigation attorney with Weir LLP. His practice includes Criminal Defense: General Practice, Criminal Defense: White-Collar, and DUI / DWI Defense, as well as civil rights and employment discrimination matters on behalf of plaintiffs. He represents clients in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state and federal courts in matters involving serious felony charges, internal investigations, white-collar allegations, juvenile cases, and protection from abuse proceedings.
Mr. Funt has twice served as Chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and has been a member of its executive committee for more than fifteen years. He has also served on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Board of Governors and the Commission of Judicial Selection and Retention, which evaluates prospective judicial candidates. His courtroom experience includes jury and bench trials involving homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, kidnapping, drug offenses, sexual assault allegations, cyber-related offenses, and financial and white-collar criminal matters.
In addition to his criminal defense practice, Mr. Funt handles civil rights and employment litigation involving allegations of excessive force, wrongful arrest, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, and First Amendment issues. He represents individuals from a wide range of professions, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical professionals, attorneys, and business professionals.
