Jacob Merkord is a native Central Texan. He grew up in the small town of Walburg, Texas, which is about 30 miles northeast of Austin. His practice focuses primarily on representing and protecting the constitutional rights of Texas landowners facing condemnation and eminent-domain proceedings. Mr. Merkord graduated with honors from the University of Texas, receiving a B.A. in history in 2007. He earned his law degree in 2010 from Tulane University Law School and became eligible to practice law in the state of Texas shortly thereafter. As a law student, Mr. Merkord interned for the vice president of Uganda as well as the Orleans Public Defenders’ Office and was a member of the Tulane Moot Court. After graduation from Tulane, Jacob received valuable training in property valuation at a prominent Austin-based appraisal firm before joining Johns Marrs Ellis & Hodge in 2012.
