Biography

Jack Carriglio represents clients in commercial disputes, including the prosecution and defense of cases relating to contracts, business torts, bankruptcy, securities, product defects, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, partnership disputes, malpractice and professional disciplinary matters, and real estate litigation. In addition, Jack has a substantial practice in representing corporations and individuals at the federal grand jury, trial, and appellate courts in various criminal matters including RICO, tax, and antitrust. Jack has earned a reputation as one of the premier trial lawyers in Chicago in both commercial litigation and federal criminal cases. He is the former president of the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Before joining Cozen O’Connor, Jack practiced law and tried cases with Thomas Foran, a former U.S Attorney. Jack has tried cases and argued appeals in federal and state civil and criminal courts throughout the United States. Clients have included public corporations as well as mid-size and small companies involving a broad range of industries including technology, manufacturing, real estate, and service-based businesses.

  • Successfully Defended Municipality Against $20M Breach of Contract claim
Jack successfully defended the City of Prospect Heights, Illinois in a three week trial in Cook County Court on a $20 million breach of contract claim by a real estate developer as to a failed project to build a sports arena. The trial verdict completely rejected the developer’s claim and barred it from any recovery against the City.
  • Successfully Defended Commercial Real Estate Owner Against Multi-Million Dollar Tenant Claims
Jack tried a case in federal court in Chicago which resulted in a verdict in favor of his client, an international commercial real estate owner and landlord, against the claims of a tenant, American Multi-Cinema, Inc. ("AMC"), regarding the allocation of millions of dollars of expenses relating to the tenant’s use of the property. The trial court found in favor of Jack’s client and ordered AMC to reimburse its landlord for the expenses.
  • Successfully Represented Municipality Against Allegations of Discrimination
Jack represented the Chief of Police and the command staff of the City of Highland Park as to allegations of racial profiling. Jack participated in the City’s internal investigation and successfully defended his clients in federal lawsuits related to the allegations.
