J. Scott Anderson focuses his practice on helping clients identify, protect, and maximize the value of their intellectual property assets. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, he represents businesses ranging from Fortune 100® companies and research universities to emerging technology startups in matters involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and related intellectual property issues.
His practice includes both intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution, providing clients with practical insight across the full lifecycle of intellectual property matters. Mr. Anderson advises clients on patent strategy, infringement and validity issues, licensing matters, portfolio management, competitive assessments, and intellectual property risk analysis. He also counsels clients regarding trademarks, domain names, copyrights, and trade secret protection.
As part of his Litigation - Intellectual Property practice, Mr. Anderson has experience handling patent-related disputes, including high-stakes patent litigation, licensing disputes, and strategic enforcement matters. He works with clients to develop practical legal strategies aligned with their business objectives and industry needs.
Mr. Anderson’s patent practice includes patentability evaluations, freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement studies, and patent portfolio reviews. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications involving mechanical systems, medical devices, electronics, software technologies, and computer-implemented business methods. His experience includes technologies related to aviation electronics, aircraft surveillance and collision avoidance systems, microscopic technologies, relational database mathematics, orthopedic surgery and fracture fixation, laser-projected displays, fleet monitoring systems, and logistics-related business methods.
Registered as a patent attorney since 2001, Mr. Anderson also has experience with reexaminations, reissue applications, and design patent applications. His technical background and legal experience allow him to assist clients with complex intellectual property matters across a broad range of industries.
Before attending law school, Mr. Anderson worked for five years as a consulting mechanical engineer. During that time, he designed mechanical systems involving industrial process piping control and instrumentation, heating and cooling systems, industrial ventilation, and automated assembly systems.
