Iara Griffith

Iara Griffith is a lawyer in the Privacy and Cybersecurity group at our Montreal office. In her practice, she advises clients from various industries on issues related to Canadian privacy laws, health information, and other related laws. She is interested in the intersection of privacy, emerging technologies, and the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence.

Iara provides services to organizations across various sectors, both private and public, to ensure compliance with ever-evolving privacy regulations. Additionally, she supports companies with due diligence on privacy matters in the context of mergers and acquisitions. In line with Quebec’s privacy reforms, Iara contributed to the development of guidelines regarding the validity criteria for consent from the Commission d’accès à l’information (Quebec’s privacy commissioner).

Trained in legal translation and jurilinguistics, Iara supports the use of plain language and legal design. To this end, she has created several tools, such as annotated laws, flowcharts, tables, and guides, to make the law more accessible and understandable. She applies these same principles in her practice, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements for simple and clear drafting.

In parallel, she assists several organizations in their efforts to comply with the Charter of the French Language, particularly regarding the language of labour relations, the language of commerce and business, the language of the civil administration, and the francization process.
