Biography

One of Montreal's leading family lawyers and a prominent member of the legal community, Ian M. Solloway is a senior trial lawyer practicing both domestic and international family law.

His practice areas include High Net-Worth family litigation, Separation, Divorce, Child custody / Parenting Orders, Child and Spousal Support / Alimony Determination / Enforcement / Modification, Matrimonial Regimes, Marriage Contracts / Pre-Nuptial / Post-Nuptial Agreements, Family Patrimony, and Separation Agreements. He also handles Same Sex Partnerships, Civil Unions, Parental Unions, Partition of Property and Financial Interests, Protection Orders, and Emergency Orders.

Ian Solloway is highly experienced in the enforcement of domestic and foreign orders, parentage, paternity, filiation, and jurisdictional issues. His expertise extends to relocation/removal, child/youth protection, and international child abduction under the Hague Convention. He also manages files involving Powers of Attorney, Wills, Contestation, Successions, Estates, Protection Mandates, and Trusts.

An active member of the Quebec, Canadian, and American Bar Associations, Ian Solloway is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a worldwide association of practicing lawyers recognized by their peers as being among the most experienced and skilled specialists in their respective countries.

Ian Solloway has taught family law at the University level and has been a frequent speaker on family law topics throughout his career. He served on the Organizing Committee for the World Cities Bar Leaders Conference (2011) and the Liaison Committee of the Quebec Superior Court in Family Matters (1998-2000, 2004-2005).

He has held numerous leadership positions within the Quebec legal community, serving as President of the English-Speaking Section of the Bar of Montreal for a record eight consecutive terms (2009-2017) and holds the honorary title of Chair Emeritus since November 2023. He was also President of the Lord Reading Law Society (2002-2003).

His contributions to the legal profession have been recognized by the Lord Reading Law Society's Past-Presidents' Medal (2014), the Mérite du Barreau de Montréal (2015),the National Assembly of Quebec's D'Arcy-McGee Citizenship Medal (2016), the Lifetime Achievement Award of the English-Speaking Section of the Bar of Montreal (2025), and recognition by Doyle's Guide 2026 as a preeminent Montreal divorce and family lawyer, and by Best Lawyers, 2027.
