Helen Andrews

Helen Andrews represents individuals, companies, and institutions in a diverse array of complex regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, complex commercial litigation, civil litigation, employment, and public interest matters. Helen was the senior associate on the legal team that successfully represented writer E. Jean Carroll in her sexual battery and defamation suits, securing two substantial jury verdicts of $5 million and $83.3 million. Helen’s regulatory practice includes working on a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) enforcement action involving novel issues regarding market manipulation, prehedging, and extraterritoriality. She represents a university in connection with compliance investigations initiated by the U.S Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights; as well as internal investigations relating to discrimination, regulatory compliance, institutional security, and employee misconduct.

Her commercial litigation experience includes representing Uber in a constitutional challenge to a New York City ordinance concerning data privacy, and a prominent government contractor in defending against claims brought against the company under the False Claims Act. She further represents individuals in employment disputes related to allegations of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

Helen also maintains a broad public interest practice. She has represented numerous victims of sexual and physical assault, including in litigation brought pursuant to the Adult Survivors Act and Trafficking Victims Protection Act. She also works on multiple immigration matters, and recently secured the immediate release of an individual wrongfully detained by Immigration & Customs Enforcement in a precedential decision regarding the violation of his constitutional due process rights.

Earlier in her career, Helen was a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where her practice included complex commercial litigation, securities fraud, investigations, intellectual property, and real estate disputes. She also maintained an active pro bono practice, representing clients in cases related to special education, immigration, and criminal law.

Helen completed clerkships with the Honorable Collins J. Seitz, Jr. of the Supreme Court of Delaware and the Honorable Jay S. Bybee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Helen received her J.D., summa cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she was a Faculty Scholar, and served as Editor in Chief of the Pepperdine Law Review. During law school, Helen was a member of Pepperdine’s Appellate Advocacy Clinic, in which she successfully briefed and argued an appeal before the Ninth Circuit. Helen was a competitor on the Moot Court Team and competed twice in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Hong Kong, and was Champion of the Armand Arabian Individual Advocacy Tournament. Helen interned in the Child Exploitation Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, completed a full-time semester-long internship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and completed the International Human Rights Law summer course at Oxford University.
