Attorney Heather W. Forshey is the founder of Raleigh Divorce Law Firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she has practiced exclusively in family law matters since 2006. She established the firm in 2010 and represents individuals and families throughout Wake County and surrounding areas in cases involving divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence, family law appeals, Family Law Mediation, Family Law Arbitration, and related family law disputes. Her practice also includes custody modifications and complex equitable distribution matters.
Heather earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Elon University and her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. She has been recognized as a North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist since 2013 and is certified as a family financial mediator and parenting coordinator. Her educational background in psychology and family services continues to shape her thoughtful and practical approach to family law representation.
At Raleigh Divorce Law Firm, Heather works closely with clients navigating divorce, custody disputes, parenting issues, support matters, and other domestic relations concerns. She represents clients in both negotiated settlements and contested litigation, while also assisting individuals seeking alternatives to litigation through Family Law Mediation and Family Law Arbitration. In addition to her legal practice, Heather regularly speaks and writes on North Carolina family law topics for continuing legal education programs and professional publications. Her presentations and written work have addressed issues involving custody evaluations, parenting plans, relocation disputes, legal ethics, allegations of abuse, and parental alienation claims in custody proceedings. She has also contributed articles to Attorney at Law Magazine discussing legal developments affecting families and the court system.
Heather’s commitment to serving children and families began before law school through her work with the Head Start program and as a Guardian ad Litem volunteer in Alamance County. During law school, she received a public interest grant supporting Guardian ad Litem programs in Lee, Harnett, and Johnston Counties. She continues to support child advocacy efforts through pro bono appellate work and her ongoing involvement with Friends of Wake GAL, where she has served as both a volunteer and board member since 2018. The organization supports children involved in the child welfare system by helping provide educational and personal development resources.
