Biography

Attorney Heather Forshey is the founder of Raleigh Divorce Law Firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she has practiced exclusively in North Carolina family law since 2006. She established the firm in 2010 and represents clients in matters involving divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence, family law appeals, Family Law Arbitration, and Family Law Mediation. Her practice includes custody modifications and complex equitable distribution disputes throughout Wake County and surrounding areas.

Heather earned her B.A. in Psychology from Elon University and her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. She has been a North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist since 2013 and is also certified as a family financial mediator and parenting coordinator. Her background in psychology and family services continues to inform her approach to representing individuals and families facing significant legal and personal transitions.

Since 2021, Heather has been recognized by Super Lawyers, after previously being selected as a North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2014-2020. She also holds an AV Preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards.

Heather’s family law practice is focused on providing practical guidance and individualized representation tailored to the facts and goals of each client’s case. She regularly handles litigation involving child custody disputes, custody modifications, divorce proceedings, and related domestic matters in North Carolina courts. In addition to litigation, she works with clients seeking alternative dispute resolution through Family Law Mediation and Family Law Arbitration.

In addition to her legal practice, Heather frequently speaks and writes on family law topics for continuing legal education programs and professional publications. Her presentations have addressed issues such as custody evaluations, parenting plans, legal ethics, relocation disputes, and allegations of abuse or parental alienation in custody proceedings. She has also contributed articles to Attorney at Law Magazine discussing high-profile legal matters and issues affecting families and the court system.

Heather’s commitment to children and families began before law school through her work with the Head Start program and as a Guardian ad Litem volunteer in Alamance County. During law school, she received a public interest grant to support Guardian ad Litem programs in Lee, Harnett, and Johnston Counties. She continues to support child advocacy efforts through pro bono appellate work and her involvement with Friends of Wake GAL, where she has served as both a volunteer and board member since 2018. The organization assists children in the child welfare system by supporting programs and resources that benefit their educational and personal development.
