Biography
Throughout his career, Harley E. Riedel has represented debtors in possession and other significant constituencies in numerous large Chapter 11 cases filed in Florida. He has also been appointed by the United States District Court to serve as Special Master in complex litigation involving extensive farming operations in Florida and Michigan. In addition, Mr. Riedel maintains an active mediation practice in bankruptcy, state, and federal court matters, assisting parties in resolving disputes efficiently and effectively.
Mr. Riedel has received longstanding recognition through independent peer review and professional organizations. He has been listed by Super Lawyers for many years, including placement on statewide lists, and has been included in the Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame. Chambers USA has recognized him among a small group of Florida attorneys in insolvency law, and he has also been included in Who’s Who Legal. In 1994, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. In 2007, the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association honored him for effectiveness, preparation, civility, courtesy, and professionalism. Tampa Magazine has also recognized him for his work as a mediator.
Mr. Riedel is deeply involved in professional and community service. He was a founder of the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association and previously served as its president. He has written and spoken on Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights and Insolvency and Reorganization Law for the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, The Florida Bar, and other legal and business organizations. In 2023, he received the Judge Don Castor Justice Award from Bay Area Legal Services, recognizing his commitment to expanding access to justice and supporting legal aid in the Tampa Bay community.
In addition to representing clients and serving as a mediator, Mr. Riedel has acted as managing or co-managing shareholder of Stichter, Riedel, Blain & Postler PA for more than four decades. The firm, based in Tampa, Florida, is known for long-term professional relationships and a collaborative environment, reflected in the many attorneys and staff members who have dedicated decades of service to the firm.
