Gregg A. Peppel is a seasoned trial attorney and business advisor with more than 25 years of experience representing clients in complex litigation, risk management, and commercial transactions. His practice focuses on medical malpractice defense, healthcare litigation, commercial and business litigation, construction law, insurance coverage disputes, real estate matters, contract disputes, and alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Peppel regularly counsels hospitals, physicians, healthcare providers, businesses, contractors, developers, property owners, insurers, educational institutions, transportation companies, beverage industry clients, and nonprofit organizations. His extensive experience across these sectors allows him to understand the legal, operational, and regulatory challenges unique to each industry and provide practical, business-focused solutions.
A significant portion of Mr. Peppel’s practice involves defending healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations in medical malpractice and professional liability matters. He also represents clients in complex commercial disputes involving contracts, business torts, construction claims, insurance coverage issues, real estate transactions, and property-related litigation. In addition to courtroom advocacy, he assists clients with dispute avoidance strategies, risk assessment, contract review, and business transactions.
Before joining Eastman & Smith as a Member, Mr. Peppel owned and operated his own law firm, giving him firsthand experience with the legal and business challenges faced by entrepreneurs, business owners, and corporate decision-makers. This perspective enables him to deliver counsel that balances legal risk with practical business objectives. Earlier in his career, he served as a court bailiff, gaining valuable insight into courtroom procedures, judicial operations, and trial practice.
Mr. Peppel earned his Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the University of Toledo Law Review. He also received his bachelor’s degree in history from The University of Toledo. During his undergraduate years, he was active in student government and a member of the university’s lacrosse team.
Known for his strategic approach, responsiveness, and commitment to client service, Mr. Peppel works closely with clients to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting their business interests and long-term objectives.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Peppel enjoys building guitar effect pedals, playing bass guitar in his church’s worship band, and spending time with his fiancé, Sarah, two adult children Ella and Brynn.
