Gerald "Jay" Kerr-Wilson

Jay Kerr-Wilson leads Fasken’s Copyright Group and is a recognized authority in communications and public law, with a particular focus on copyright. He advises Canadian and international clients in the communications and technology sectors on a wide range of regulatory and legal matters, including telecommunications and broadcasting regulation, copyright licensing and liability, and trademark protection.

Jay regularly represents clients before the Copyright Board of Canada and in appellate proceedings before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. His work places him at the forefront of legal developments in the regulation of emerging communications technologies. He regularly advises clients on copyright issues associated with the deployment of artificial intelligence.

He has appeared before Parliamentary committees and served as a delegate to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), representing Canada’s cable and satellite industry. Jay also advises on judicial reviews and appeals of decisions by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and is a registered trademark agent.

In addition to his litigation and regulatory practice, Jay provides strategic counsel on government relations, representing clients before federal departments and agencies.
