Mr. Gavin Terence Bell served as the Chief Executive Officer, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Herbert Smith Freehills from 2005 to October 2012. Mr. Bell joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 1982 as a solicitor in the Litigation group and became a Partner in 1988. He then worked in the Projects group prior to becoming a partner in that group in 1988.
As partner at Freehills for seventeen years, he specialised in the infrastructure and construction area and remained a partner working in the Projects group up until 2001. In this role, he advised many of Australia’s leading construction companies, banks and developers. His career highlights as a partner include many of the major projects carried out throughout Australia over the last two decades. In November 2001, he took up the position as the chief operating officer. He has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of IVE Group Limited since November 25, 2015 and Non-Executive Director of Smartgroup Corporation Ltd. since February 18, 2014.
He serves as a Non-executive director of AIMSO Ltd and Insurance and Care NSW. He is a member of the Safety, Return to Work and Support Board and a director of Australian Indigenous Minority Supplier Council Limited. He serves as a Member of National Board of Freehills. He serves as a Member of the Australian Graduate School of Management Advisory Council and the Business Council of Australia. He served as Member of National Board at Herbert Smith Freehills until October 2012. He won the Directors' Prize.
Mr. Bell completed Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney and graduated in 1982. He undertook a Master of Business Administration (Executive) degree at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), University of New South Wales and Graduated in 1995.
