Gary Caplan

Gary Caplan is a civil litigation lawyer in Toronto, Ontario, practising with Gary M. Caplan Professional Corporation. For more than 40 years, he has represented clients in commercial litigation, insurance disputes, mediation, and arbitration matters. His practice focuses on practical and cost-effective dispute resolution strategies for businesses, insurers, professionals, and individuals.

Gary is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation. His litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice includes Insurance Law, defence and subrogation claims, shareholder and partnership disputes, real estate litigation, professional liability matters, and other complex commercial disputes.

In addition to his litigation work, Gary serves as a mediator and arbitrator in a broad range of civil and commercial matters. He is a Chartered Mediator (C.Med) and Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb) with the ADR Institute of Canada and has conducted hundreds of mediations and arbitrations throughout Ontario. He also holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, England, where he is an associate member.

Gary is also an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, teaching “Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Mediation and Arbitration.” He regularly speaks and provides advocacy and dispute resolution training for legal and professional organizations, including The Advocates’ Society.

Through his work in civil litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Insurance Law, Gary assists clients across Toronto and Ontario with resolving disputes efficiently and professionally.
