Rick is a Member of American Board of Trial Advocates with the Rank of Advocate. This required Rick to try a significant number of civil jury trials to verdict as lead counsel. Rick is also a fellow in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, whose membership is limited to 250 attorneys who have displayed exceptional skills, the highest integrity and have dedicated their professional lives to trial practice. Membership is by invitation only, with recommendation from peers and judges and requires unanimous approval by the Board of Governors of the Academy. Rick has received the preeminent AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, a rating received from peers in the legal community.
Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Rick was a partner with the firm of Lamson, Dugan and Murray, L.L.P. in Omaha, Nebraska. Rick’s experience and practice has been primarily in civil litigation including extensive experience with health care professionals and institutions.
Rick has tried jury cases in many Iowa courts including 18 jury trials in Polk County, 5 jury trials in Cerro Gordo, 3 jury trials in Pottawattamie as well as jury trials in the following Iowa counties: Carroll, Poweshiek, Marion, Shelby, Mahaska, Decatur, Wapello, Monona, Woodbury, Allamakee, Clay and where he grew up in Greene County. Rick has also tried cases to several Nebraska juries including trials in the Nebraska District Courts in Douglas County on 9 occasions as well as Lancaster and Pierce Counties. Finally, Rick has tried cases to federal juries in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa and the District of Nebraska. Rick has argued cases before the Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, Nebraska Supreme Court and Nebraska Court of Appeals.
