Q&A

My practice focuses on helping people and families whose lives have been changed by serious injury or medical negligence.

What makes it unique is that, at Oatley Vigmond, it never feels like "my" practice, it feels like "our" practice. Every file benefits from the collective experience of an exceptionally collaborative team. We regularly share ideas, challenge each other's thinking, and work together to achieve the best result for our clients.

I also value our firm's commitment to trial readiness. From the moment we take on a case, we prepare it as though it may ultimately proceed to trial. That approach helps ensure we are always in the strongest possible position, whether the case resolves through settlement or in the courtroom.

The most common questions I hear are: "How does the contingency fee work?", "How long will my case take?", and "What is my case worth?"

The answer to all three depends on the circumstances of the individual case. We can explain how contingency fees work and provide guidance on timing and value, but serious injury claims are influenced by many factors, including recovery, rehabilitation, future care needs, and income loss.

I always try to be honest with clients about what we know, what we do not yet know, and what information we need before we can provide more accurate advice.

Some of the most memorable cases I work on involve medical malpractice.

When people seek medical care, they are often at their most vulnerable. When something goes wrong, the emotional impact can be profound, both for the patient and their family.

Those cases stay with me because they involve a unique combination of complex legal and medical issues, while also requiring a deep understanding of the personal consequences that follow. Helping clients navigate those challenges is some of the most meaningful work I do.

One of the most challenging aspects of personal injury and medical malpractice litigation is that so much is outside of your control.

Court delays, legal precedents, and the pace of recovery can all affect a case. There are also situations where the law limits the compensation available, regardless of the magnitude of a person's loss.

At the same time, we are often working with people who are experiencing the most difficult circumstances of their lives. While that can be emotionally challenging, it is also what makes the work so meaningful. Helping alleviate even a small amount of stress for someone facing a life-changing event is incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, I am an avid reader with a particular interest in history and literature. My academic background is in English and history, and I enjoy everything from Shakespeare to contemporary fiction.

I also enjoy board games, camping, and canoeing with my husband. Spending time outdoors is a great way to disconnect, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends.
