Q & A WITH EVAN PAPPAS
Why did you choose to become a lawyer?
I was drawn to the law because it provides an opportunity to help people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Practicing law allows me to work directly with individuals and families who are dealing with serious injuries, unexpected losses and significant changes to their daily lives.
When someone comes to our firm after an injury, there is often a great deal of uncertainty about what comes next. I take seriously the responsibility of helping clients understand the legal process and advocating for their interests.
What goes through your mind when you first sit down with a new client?
It can be a heavy first meeting when we sit down and the clients tell me their story of how their life drastically changed in an instant. So my first priority is listening. Every case involves a unique set of circumstances, and it is important to understand not only what happened, but also how the injury has affected the client and their family.
These conversations often take place during challenging periods in a person’s life. Taking the time to understand their concerns and goals helps us develop an approach that reflects their individual situation.
What does a client’s trust mean to you?
When a client places their trust in our firm, it creates a responsibility to approach the case carefully and thoroughly. Attention to detail, communication and preparation are all important parts of that process.
That trust has to be earned thoughout the case. Honesty and communication are crucial to building the bond with a client.
Trust is built over time through consistent communication and responsiveness.
How important is communication in the attorney-client relationship?
It's essential. Clients need to understand what's happening with their case and why. The legal process is usually new to them and they do not know the steps and waiting periods involved and it's up to us to keep them informed.
Communications goes both ways. It's up to us to keep talking to clients as their circumstances may change over the course of the case.
You talk about taking a team approach to cases. What does that mean?
At Giroux Pappas Law, cases are supported by a team that includes attorneys, paralegals and legal staff working together throughout the litigation process.
Collaboration allows us to review issues from multiple perspectives, stay organized and maintain communication with clients as their cases move forward.
How does preparation factor into the way you handle a case?
Preparation begins at the outset of every case. That includes reviewing the facts, understanding the medical records and evidence, evaluating legal issues and continuing to reassess the case as new information becomes available.
Personal injury litigation often involves complex issues, and careful preparation is an important part of advocating effectively for clients.
What does being a trial attorney mean to you?
Being a trial attorney means preparing each case thoroughly and being ready to present the client’s position in court when necessary.
While many cases may resolve before trial, preparation remains important throughout the process. Understanding the evidence and being able to clearly present the client’s story are essential parts of litigation.
What do you find most rewarding about practicing personal injury law?
One of the most meaningful aspects of personal injury law is helping people navigate difficult and unexpected situations. Clients often come to us after life-changing events, and part of our role is helping them move forward through the legal process.
Being able to advocate for individuals and families during those times is what makes this work meaningful to me.
What do you hope clients experience when they work with Giroux Pappas?
I want clients to feel that their concerns are being taken seriously and that they have a legal team committed to communicating with them throughout the process.
Building strong attorney-client relationships requires attention, preparation and consistent communication. Those principles are important to the way we approach personal injury litigation at Giroux Pappas Law PC.
How is Giroux Pappas involved in the community?
At Giroux Pappas, we believe being personal injury attorneys in Michigan means more than representing clients – it means investing in the communities we serve.
