Biography

Esther Shainblum is a partner at Carters Professional Corporation, practicing in the areas of charity & not for profit law, privacy law & health law. From 2005 to 2017, Esther was General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer for Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, a national, not-for-profit, charitable home & community care organization, where she provided support to the board of directors, management and staff in a variety of areas including governance, risk management, privacy and access to information, compliance and corporate/commercial matters. Before joining Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, Esther was Senior Policy Advisor to the Ontario Minister of Health, advising the Minister on a wide range of portfolios, including hospitals, long term care and health care professions. Earlier in her career, Esther practiced health law and corporate/commercial law at McMillan Binch and spent a number of years working in policy development at Queen’s Park. Esther obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from McGill University, her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School & her Master of Laws, Health Law from Dalhousie Law School, Health Law Institute. She also holds the Canadian Risk Management Designation (CRM).
