Enrique Vergara Vial

Enrique Vergara Vial holds a lawyer license from Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago de Chile, and a Master in European Community Law from Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona, Spain

He is an expert in competition policy. He has worked on public institutions in Chile including relevant positions. He was the President of the Competition Court since May 2016 up to May 2022. Previously, he held the position of Judge in the same court since May 2012 up to 2016. Before that, he acted as a National Economic Prosecutor from 2006 to 2010. He had an active participation in the development and promulgation of N° 19.911 law under which the Chilean Competition Court was created and N° 20.361 law which enabled to strengthen the prosecution of cartels and antitrust enforcement, including a leniency program.

Before his activities in the public sector, he worked in law firms, mainly focused in civil and commercial litigation and negotiations of contracts.

In the academic field, he has been professor in economic and competition law in Universidad Diego Portales and Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, Santiago de Chile (UAI), among others. Nowadays, he is the Academic Director of Post Graduates in the UAI’s Law School.
