BACKGROUND
Emily focuses her practice on IP litigation and enforcement, as well as patent prosecution, in a variety of technology areas. Emily received her J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in 2021, where she was heavily involved with the IP community and secured asylum for four children through the Bluhm Legal Clinic’s Children and Family Justice Center. She received a B.S. (with distinction) in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College in 2014.
EXPERIENCE
Emily’s experience spans a broad range of technology areas, with a focus in software and hardware. Her litigation practice is informed by her patent prosecution experience, and vice versa. Emily has experience in all stages of litigation and is a budding trial attorney, having directly examined a witness at trial and taken intensive Trial Advocacy and Deposition Skills courses with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. In her prosecution practice, she has significant experience drafting, prosecuting, and appealing patent applications for clients ranging from small startups to Fortune 100 companies.
During law school, Emily was President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, an executive board member of the Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property, and an active student member of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court. She was also the Midwest Regional Champion and a National Semifinalist in the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s 2019-2020 Giles S. Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition. During her time at the Children and Family Justice Center, Emily sensitively conducted numerous interviews with her traumatized clients and drafted comprehensive briefs in light of evolving case law and guidance, which ultimately led to her clients’ successful asylum claim.
Prior to joining Seed IP, Emily worked as an IP litigation associate at a large law firm in Palo Alto, California. Prior to attending law school, she was also a patent agent at a large law firm in Mountain View, California. Additionally, her undergraduate research focused on semiconductor nanofabrication and characterization, in association with Harvey Mudd College’s Department of Chemistry, Stanford University’s Department of Electrical Engineering, and the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan.
