Emily focuses her practice in the area of general civil litigation, mass tort and toxic tort litigation, products liability and construction defense. Emily regularly practices in both state and federal courts and has several years of experience defending and advising manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, contractors, professional consultants and other businesses in complex civil litigation matters. Emily has been successful in defending smaller value cases as well as multi-million dollar property damage, wrongful death and personal injury cases.
Emily’s experience includes counseling and defending clients in all phases of litigation, including preparation of initial pleadings, all phases of discovery, fact investigation, taking and defending depositions, identifying and drafting dispositive and pretrial motions, expert witnesses and discovery, litigation strategy and risk, and trial preparation. Emily has proven to be one of the lead research and writers for her team, which has resulted in many excellent results and favorable rulings for her clients. Emily’s work has been key in identifying unique issues and creative defenses, which has resulted in significantly reduced values of claims against her clients, as well as the early and favorable resolution of cases.
Before joining Meagher + Geer, Emily clerked for Chief Magistrate Raymond L. Erickson and Magistrate Leo I. Brisbois, of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. As a judicial clerk, Emily handled a variety of complex civil and criminal litigation at the trial court level, including personal injury and wrongful death claims, class action litigation, multi-district litigation, patent infringement and intellectual property litigation, civil rights litigation, commercial and business disputes, Indian gaming law and pre-trial motions for a variety of felony criminal matters.
Emily graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism, and received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School. During law school, Emily was a member of the Competition Team for the Civil Rights Moot Court and a student attorney for the Bankruptcy Clinic where she advised and represented individuals in bankruptcy and debt-related matters.
In her free time, Emily enjoys cooking, seeing live music, hiking, travel and spending time with her Shi Tzu, Sammy.
