Biography

Before joining the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2023, Elizabeth Ligon practiced workers’ compensation law for more than a decade as a defense attorney. She now uses her background in case strategy, litigation, and clear client communication to help injured workers navigate the North Carolina workers’ compensation system. This transition allows her to focus her work on people whose livelihoods and health have been impacted by workplace injuries.

“I want to be known as an attorney who relates to my clients and works hard to pursue their goals and advocate for fair results under the law.”

At the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Elizabeth dedicates her practice to protecting the rights of injured employees throughout Durham, the Research Triangle, and across North Carolina. Her prior experience representing employers and insurance companies gives her insight into how claims are evaluated, negotiated, and litigated, which she applies when advocating for workers in workers’ compensation claims. She is certified by the North Carolina State Bar in workers’ compensation law.

Elizabeth has lived and worked in the Research Triangle since her undergraduate and law school years at the University of North Carolina. She resides in nearby Wake Forest with her son, Brant, and values the close support of her family in the area.

Outside of her legal practice, Elizabeth enjoys watching her energetic toddler explore the world, especially during their shared story-time. Community service has long been important to her, from completing more than 100 hours of pro bono legal work during law school to remaining active in her church, The Summit.

Elizabeth also supports organizations that reflect her commitment to service, including Lifesong for Orphans and the SPCA. She is a proud rescue dog owner and remains dedicated to serving others both in her legal career and in her personal life.
