E. Sean Medina

With 20 years of experience representing clients both inside and outside of the courtroom, Sean provides targeted, creative, and assertive legal strategy. He has represented clients both large and small, such as one of the top tier health insurers in the country, one of the most recognized hospital systems in the world, North America’s largest flat-rolled steel producer and supplier of iron ore pellets, a fortune 500 company that provides title insurance and settlement services to the real estate and mortgage industries, and several family-owned businesses. Sean enjoys getting to know his clients, understanding their business needs, and fighting to further those needs through litigation.

Sean has a record of early success for his clients through dispositive motions, defeat of class certification, and securing dismissal of or summary judgment on claims prior to trial. He also has years of experience representing clients in alternative dispute resolution proceedings, such as arbitration and mediation.

Focusing on healthcare litigation, Sean’s litigation experience includes payor-provider litigation, class actions, state statutory claims, and ERISA litigation. Sean also has experience in the following areas of general commercial litigation:

• Breach of contract claims
• Business torts and fraud claims
• Class action defense
• Claims asserting state and Federal statutory violations
• State bid and procurement litigation

In addition to his duties as a litigation partner at the Firm, Sean has served as chair of Hahn Loeser’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee for five years, leading a group of 10 attorneys and senior staff members to develop and implement initiatives to enhance the Firm’s inclusive workplace culture, recruitment, and retention efforts. Under his leadership, the Firm achieved Mansfield™ Rule Certification for Midsize Law Firms in 2023 and Mansfield™ Rule Certification Plus for Midsize Law Firms in 2024.

A native of Greater Cleveland, Sean earned his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2007 and a Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green University in 2003. His love for Northeast Ohio extends to his community involvement, where he has been a board member of the Epilepsy Association since 2013 and was recently named to the board of Cleveland Public Theatre. He has served as a mentor for several organizations, a legal advisor for a local high school mock trial team, and as part of the leadership team for the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Litigation Section.

Sean’s passion for serving his clients and his community has been recognized in recent years.
