Duncan Reid

Duncan Reid is a Vancouver-based cross-border lawyer advising Canadian and international clients on corporate and securities law matters, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, commercial real estate transactions, international trade and other strategic business matters. As a partner at Farris LLP, Duncan works with clients across a range of industries, including financial services, technology, forestry, mining and commercial real estate, including REITs and listed real estate funds.

For more than 20 years, Duncan has advised buyers, sellers, underwriters, lenders and joint venture partners on complex domestic and international transactions involving parties in more than 25 countries and over 40 U.S. states. His practice includes significant Canadian and cross-border M&A transactions, with a particular focus on U.S.-related matters for Canadian businesses operating internationally.

Duncan also advises participants in British Columbia’s forest industry on the Canada-U.S. softwood lumber dispute, a longstanding international trade matter with significant commercial and regulatory implications.

Clients seek Duncan’s counsel on transactions and strategic matters that require practical guidance, cross-border coordination and careful attention to business objectives. He regularly assists organizations navigating sophisticated legal and commercial issues in evolving markets.

Before joining Farris LLP in Vancouver in 2012, Duncan served as Executive Director and Senior Counsel at Goldman Sachs in London and Hong Kong. Earlier in his career, he practiced at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York and London, advising on international corporate transactions and securities matters.

Outside his legal practice, Duncan supports a number of community and non-profit organizations. His involvement has included serving as Chair of McGill’s Advisory Board for British Columbia, director of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and director of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. He is also an active youth soccer coach.
