Drew W. Colby is Of Counsel at Cole Law Partners, P.C., where he concentrates on construction law. Admitted in 1986, he has represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers on public, commercial and residential projects for nearly four decades.
His practice covers the full life of a project. He drafts and negotiates construction contracts. He handles payment and performance disputes, mechanic’s lien and payment bond claims, defective and incomplete work claims, public bid protests, and related insurance coverage issues, resolving them through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation.
Before joining Cole Law Partners in 2026, Attorney Colby was a Director at Kenney & Sams, P.C. Before that, he was a partner at Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP, where he co-chaired the firm’s Construction Group.
He writes and teaches regularly on construction law. With Anthony B. Fioravanti, he co-authored the chapter “Private and Public Construction Contract Performance Issues” in MCLE’s Massachusetts Construction Law and Litigation (3d ed. 2024). He has also written “Five Construction Clauses To Avoid Litigation” (ENR New England, 2019) and “The Claims Clause” (2024), and has presented on construction payment disputes for Lorman Education Services and on industry trends for construction insurance audiences.
Attorney Colby is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Construction Law (2024 through 2027). He has been selected to Massachusetts Super Lawyers for Construction Litigation (2025 and 2026) and holds an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He volunteers with Veterans Inc.
