Doug Bourassa

Doug Bourassa is a partner in Torkin Manes LLP’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Commercial Real Estate Groups in Toronto, Ontario. His practice focuses on Corporate and Commercial Litigation, real estate litigation, mortgage enforcement proceedings, and complex business disputes. Doug regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and has acted as counsel in appellate matters before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Doug advises financial institutions, private lenders, businesses, property owners, and individuals on a broad range of commercial and real estate disputes. His experience includes power of sale proceedings, receiverships, foreclosures, judicial sales, mortgage enforcement matters, and disputes involving subordinate financing arrangements. He also represents clients in contested real estate transactions, ownership disputes, easement and right-of-way matters, commercial lease disputes, tenant issues, and allegations relating to improvident sales.

In his Corporate and Commercial Litigation practice, Doug acts for clients in shareholder disputes, contract claims, fraud-related litigation, and other business conflicts. He regularly assists clients seeking urgent and interlocutory remedies, including Mareva injunctions, Norwich orders, certificates of pending litigation, and other court orders intended to preserve assets and evidence during litigation.

Doug is also a frequent speaker and writer on litigation, commercial litigation, and real estate law topics. He has presented papers and seminars for organizations including the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, the Toronto Lawyers Association, and regional legal associations throughout Ontario.
