Devin Ricci

Devin Ricci represents businesses of all sizes in the ownership, monetization, and protection of intellectual property. His practice includes Copyright Law, Trademark Law, Trade Secrets Law, and intellectual property litigation, including Litigation – Patent and Litigation – Intellectual Property matters in federal courts. He works with clients to secure IP rights and to resolve disputes involving patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, as well as trade secret misappropriation. Devin’s clients include individual inventors, artists, technology companies, universities and research institutions, renewable energy companies, major oil companies, and service providers operating at every stage of the commercial lifecycle.

As a registered patent attorney, Devin prepares and prosecutes U.S. patent applications and coordinates with international counsel on PCT applications and foreign patent filings. His work includes conducting prior art searches and advising on design-around strategies, non-infringement analyses, and freedom-to-operate considerations. He has assisted clients with obtaining and maintaining patent protection in more than 40 countries. Devin also conducts trademark screening searches and prosecutes state, federal, and international trademark applications. He manages domestic and international IP portfolios and drafts and negotiates licenses, assignments, and transactions involving intellectual property assets.

In addition to his intellectual property practice, Devin advises clients on pipeline servitudes and expropriation rights. He negotiates, documents, and closes servitude agreements with landowners to secure rights of way for pipeline projects and represents clients in expropriation litigation. His experience includes due diligence reviews of servitude rights affecting industrial site developments, as well as negotiating and implementing letters of no objection for pipeline and utility installations and crossings.

Although these practice areas are distinct, they are closely connected in Devin’s approach to client representation. His background in intellectual property law and energy-related matters allows him to identify legal risks early, evaluate practical considerations, and craft strategies aligned with each client’s business objectives. This perspective informs his work in contract negotiation, litigation strategy, and problem-solving across complex legal issues.

Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, Devin advises energy, e-commerce, and technology-driven businesses throughout the region. Before entering private practice, Devin served as a Law Clerk for Entergy, an integrated energy company serving Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, and for the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General, Civil Division. He also worked as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable J. Michael McDonald of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeals.
