Denis Serkin is a Partner in Peckar & Abramson PC and practices in the firm’s New York and New Jersey offices, including work connected to River Edge, New Jersey. His practice focuses on construction law, with an emphasis on Litigation - Construction and construction dispute resolution. Denis counsels owners, developers, contractors, and design professionals throughout the life cycle of construction projects, from project planning and contract drafting through dispute resolution in litigation, arbitration, and mediation. He also serves as Chair of the firm’s International Practice.
Denis advises clients on a broad range of construction projects, including power and energy generation, pipelines, public infrastructure, and commercial, industrial, and manufacturing facilities. His litigation experience includes matters involving breach of contract, construction defects, delay and disruption, productivity impacts, and surety claims. He also represents clients in matters involving mechanics’ liens and public bidding challenges. Denis regularly handles disputes in state and federal courts, as well as in domestic and international arbitration forums. In addition, he assists clients with drafting and negotiating construction agreements using both custom contracts and industry standard forms.
Denis represents clients across the United States and internationally and routinely advises on regulatory and compliance matters, including issues related to the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). In 2021, he completed the FIDIC Certified Course Module 2: Claims and Disputes Resolution, further supporting his work on complex construction and infrastructure disputes.
Before entering the legal profession, Denis worked as a project engineer for a major New Jersey government agency, where he managed projects from design through procurement and construction. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University in the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, where he teaches a course on the prevention and resolution of construction disputes. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, teaching courses focused on the legal aspects of construction contracts and specifications.
Denis has been included on the New York-Metro Super Lawyers list from 2019 through 2024 and on the New Jersey Super Lawyers list from 2021 through 2025. Earlier in his career, he was named to the Rising Stars lists in both New York-Metro and New Jersey. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers from 2023 through 2025, identified as a Future Leader by Who’s Who Legal, and selected as a Recommended Lawyer by Legal 500.
