David Dyer is an associate in the Austin and Bay Area offices of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He handles a broad range of intellectual property matters for a variety of clients. As an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group in the Austin and San Francisco offices of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, David focuses primarily on patent litigation and other IP litigation. David's technical background in aerospace and mechanical engineering includes experience with fluid dynamics, mechanical component testing, and mechanical systems design.

David regularly handles complex disputes involving concurrent proceedings in Federal Courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. David has significant experience in key areas of intellectual property litigation, including fact and expert discovery, prior art and claim construction analysis, case-dispositive motion practice, and trial and witness preparation. David has represented clients in a broad spectrum of technologies, including memory devices, and computer and server hardware and software.

David also has experience in drafting and prosecuting patents in a variety of technologies such as computer hardware and software, medical devices, oilfield equipment and associated software, and propulsion systems.

David maintains an active pro bono practice, including matters involving immigration and asylum, landlord-tenant law, and veterans' benefits.

Prior to starting his legal career, David worked as an engineer at L-3 Communications in Greenville, Texas, where he focused on cooling system designs for reconnaissance aircraft. David also worked as an engineer at Halliburton Drill Bits and Services in Conroe, TX, where he focused on drill bit component testing.

While earning his undergraduate degree at Texas, David studied flight dynamics, aerodynamics, structural dynamics, flu d dynamics, and compressible fluid flow.
