Daniel Melamed is a partner in the Family Law Group at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario, with a practice focused on Family Law and Family Law Mediation. He serves as a family law mediator and arbitrator, assisting individuals, families, and counsel with the resolution of complex domestic matters through private dispute resolution processes.
Daniel works with parties and their lawyers to address a broad range of family law issues, including property division, spousal support, child support, parenting matters, and multi-jurisdictional disputes. His mediation and arbitration practice includes high conflict and high net worth matters, with an emphasis on practical, efficient, and fair outcomes tailored to the needs of the parties involved.
Known for his thoughtful and balanced approach, Daniel helps clients navigate sensitive family law matters with professionalism and care. His background in both advocacy and dispute resolution allows him to manage complex legal and interpersonal issues while encouraging constructive dialogue and informed decision-making.
Prior to transitioning primarily to mediation and arbitration, Daniel maintained an active family law litigation practice for many years. He also served as Preferred Counsel to The Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company, the insurer for Ontario lawyers, where he regularly defended family lawyers in professional negligence claims.
Daniel’s involvement in the family law community includes his appointment to the Family Rules Committee for the Province of Ontario for two consecutive terms. Over the course of his career, he has worked extensively with clients, counsel, and courts throughout Ontario on a wide range of family law matters.
