Biography
Dan Kraftson is a construction law attorney with Kraftson Caudle in McLean, Virginia. His practice focuses on Construction Law and Litigation – Construction, with an emphasis on complex construction contract disputes. Dan assists clients with the preparation, negotiation, and litigation of claims involving additional time and compensation under fixed-price, cost-reimbursable, and other construction contract structures. His work also includes claim analysis under both government and private construction contracts, as well as advising contractors and owners on contract drafting and negotiation.
Dan represents construction owners and contractors throughout the United States and internationally on a broad range of projects. His experience includes matters involving sports stadiums, solar installations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, chemical processing plants, highways, bridges, nuclear and fossil fuel power plants, hydroelectric facilities, pipelines, mass transit systems, commercial office buildings, hotels, dams, and environmental remediation projects.
Through decades of involvement in construction litigation, Dan has developed substantial familiarity with federal, state, and local government construction contracting requirements. He has handled matters in state and federal courts, arbitration proceedings, administrative hearings, and other dispute resolution forums. These matters commonly involve claims related to contract changes, differing site conditions, delay and disruption, cost of performance, and schedule impacts, as well as construction defect disputes.
Dan regularly works with critical path method (CPM) scheduling principles and construction cost analysis and has collaborated extensively with construction claims, scheduling, and accounting professionals. In addition to his litigation practice, he serves as an arbitrator, mediator, and dispute review board member in complex construction disputes.
Dan has received Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent rating for Legal Ability and Ethical Standards (1990–2024).
Dan earned his Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary School of Law in 1977 and his Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College in 1973. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court, and related federal courts.
