"I used the services of Perkins Coie's attorneys from numerous offices over a period of years and grew to trust and like them, both as lawyers and as people. But of all those extraordinarily talented folks, Dan Barr stood out as a star. He is confident, reserved, knowledgeable, and always prepared. He brought the rare combination of legal expertise and great common sense to each of the cases entrusted to him."

"A serious journalist can have no better friend than Dan Barr. During the past 15 years that I’ve worked as a reporter and editor in Arizona, I’ve called him hundreds of times, including, on occasion, when sheriff’s deputies were screaming in my other ear threatening arrest. Dan memorably litigated a case in which Scottsdale City officials thought they would withhold employment records of a police officer who was involved in a drunken hit-and-run accident that crippled a county sheriff’s deputy. Dan won so convincingly, the judge ruled from the bench and Arizona courts have cited that decision in public records cases ever since. On a personal note, Dan kept me out of the joint when a public defender in a murder case argued that I should be held in contempt of court for refusing to roll on a source. Another time, Dan calmly explained to a city attorney and an assistant police chief’s personal attorney the night before publication why we were refusing their directives to spike a story I had written that detailed the assistant police chief’s illegal drug use. I’ve celebrated many victories with Dan -- and I’ve never had the opportunity to ponder a loss.
