Biography
A litigator, advisor and defender of the transportation, long term care and electric industries, Dana works with her clients in the boardroom, on site, and in the courtroom.
Dana is a Shareholder at Young Moore, where she has made her professional home since 1990. As a litigation team member, Dana has evolved her law practice from the defense of automobile cases for insurance companies to complex defense litigation for motor carriers, nursing homes, and rural electric cooperatives. Her day-to-day activities involve accident scene investigations, consultation with industry or medical experts, and analysis of fact-specific legal issues for her clients, including Schneider National, Inc., U.S. Xpress, Universal Health Care, Autumn Care and Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange. Dana makes frequent appearances in court at the trial and appellate levels, trying cases and arguing motions in venues ranging from local courtrooms to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In all these venues in every corner of North Carolina, Dana is proud to serve her clients as lead trial attorney.
As a long-term contributor to the transportation, long term care and electric industries, Dana frequently partners with her clients to publish articles or create learning tools to educate participants in the legal process. Dana’s service to her clients includes risk management analysis before, during and after litigation.
Representative Experience
- “Boots on the ground” for more than 30 years at accident scenes involving motor carriers or electric cooperatives.
- Completed more than 50 trials as defense counsel.
- Obtained directed verdict in favor of broker involving allegations of fraud and breach of contract.
- Procured jury verdict of no negligence for electric cooperative in multi-party suit involving downed power lines.
- Successfully argued summary judgment in several cases based upon compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Achieved dismissal for long term care client based upon covid immunities.
Dana is an elected member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and the International Society of Barristers (ISOB). She is a former President of the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) where she served a total of 10 years on its Board of Directors. Dana has an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
