Craig Vander Zee is a partner at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario and practises in the firm’s Trusts & Estates and Litigation Groups. He is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Estates and Trusts Law. Craig advises and represents individuals, trust companies, government agencies and other organizations in estate, trust, capacity, fiduciary and power of attorney disputes and litigation.
His practice includes advising clients on the rights and obligations of estate trustees, estate trustees during litigation, trustees, attorneys for property and personal care, guardians and beneficiaries. Craig regularly assists clients with matters involving estate administration, probate applications, passing of accounts, powers of attorney, guardianship applications, the appointment or removal of estate trustees and trustees, will challenges, capacity issues, undue influence claims, breach of trust matters, dependant support claims and other estate and trust disputes.
Craig also serves as an estate mediator, helping parties resolve trusts and estates disputes through mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
He is a past Chair of the Trusts and Estates Section of the Ontario Bar Association and a past member of the Executive (Toronto Branch) of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Craig also served on the Advisory Group for the Law Commission of Ontario’s project examining laws affecting older adults.
Craig has represented clients before all levels of court in Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada, the trial and appellate courts of Alberta, and various administrative tribunals and boards.
Craig’s Trusts and Estates practice focuses on estate litigation, trust litigation, fiduciary disputes, guardianship matters, powers of attorney, estate administration disputes and mediation services for clients throughout Toronto and Ontario.
