Craig O'Brien

Craig O’Brien is a partner with Nelligan Law.

He works exclusively in civil litigation, with an emphasis on commercial and construction litigation, insurance defence and professional liability litigation and business law.

Craig served as the president of the County of Carleton Law Association in 2020.

Craig frequently represents major insurance companies, and has been involved in a variety of insurance claims. These include personal injury litigation, building and construction deficiency and home inspection claims, improper road and sidewalk maintenance claims, environmental spill claims, and occupiers’ liability claims. His practice includes representing insurers in accident benefits, arbitrations, and litigation

Craig has appeared before the Small Claims Court of Ontario, the Ontario Superior Court, the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and various administrative tribunals, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.

Craig is sensitive to the fact that he is not only protecting his client against claims, but that their professional reputation may also be at stake. He is practical, straightforward, and results-oriented. He avoids being side-tracked, and always aims to get to a result as efficiently and effectively as possible. He is also responsive to his clients’ queries, and is very approachable.

Craig was recognized in the 2021 edition of Best Lawyers for his work in Insurance Law.

Craig loves the outdoors. In summer he goes wakeboarding and water-skiing, and in winter he skis and snowboards as often as he can. He is also a member of local ultimate and volleyball leagues, and has a passion for travel.
