Managing partner of Von Wobeser y Sierra with almost 40 years of experience advising both multinational Fortune 500 clients as well as governments. He has an undisputed track record acting as counsel and arbitrator appointed by international companies and governments involved in international investor-state or commercial disputes. Furthermore, he has a strong background in corporate as well as litigation matters and has been the leader in some of the most groundbreaking transactions taking place in Latin America and Mexico during the past 30 years.  Representative work includes includes advising Anheuser Busch Inbev in its recent acquisition of Grupo Modelo for $20.1 billion USD and counseling The Coca Cola Company in various of its many and distinct key strategic M&A deals.

Mr. von Wobeser has received global recognition for his work in arbitration as counsel and arbitrator. He has solid experience internationally including in Latin American region, North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.  He has represented many Mexican and foreign companies in important international arbitrations as per the rules of the ICC, AAA, UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, ICSID Arbitration Rules, ICSID Additional Facility Arbitration Rules and Mexico Spain Bilateral Investment Treaty among others.
 
Furthermore, he has served as arbitrator under the rules of the ICC, AAA, ICDR, Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission, NAFTA chapter XI, ICSID and ICSID Additional Facility Mechanism, Hong Kong International Arbitration Center, LCIA and Energy Charter Treaty.
 
Additionally, he has acted as ad hoc judge of the Inter-American Human Rights Court and as expert witness on Mexican and International Law in several international arbitrations as well as in U.S. and English Courts.

 

Corporate, M&A, Foreign Investment, Civil & Commercial Litigation

He is a key player in advising companies and institutions on their major corporate foreign investment matters. Mr. von Wobeser has been the lead legal counsel in helping companies to increase their participation in the Mexican market and in the planning of the most important M&A deals that have taken place in Latin America. He is an expert in strategic business planning and his main areas of expertise include: business negotiations, structuring and incorporation of companies, expansion via subsidiaries, joint ventures and the generation and implementation of commercial contracts. He has counseled and assisted major corporations in the structuring of their companies advising them strategically in order to expand into Mexico and Latin America.

Furthermore, he has advised companies in order to minimize any legal liabilities, assure fiscal efficiency, and compliance with legal obligations under Mexican and International law. He has also successfully protected clients via litigation in large scale transactions.
