Chris Donald focuses his practice in corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions (large and small businesses), corporate finance, commercial lending, commercial real estate, legal due diligence, limited partnerships, non-profit organizations, corporate governance and municipal law.
He advises clients in the real estate, energy (including on windmill projects) and agri-business sectors.
Chris is one of the firm’s transactional lawyers, bringing in the expertise of other lawyers in the firm and when necessary outside expert advice, in order to efficiently complete transactions. He is often called upon to act as Saskatchewan counsel in multi-jurisdictional transactions.
Chris’ representative work includes:
- Saskatchewan counsel for electrical power producer that constructed two gas-powered generation plants
- Frequently consulted on land issues for wind energy projects
- Acted for vendor on sale of multiple franchised restaurants throughout Western Canada
- Acted for purchasers of large corporate farming operations
- Acted for owner of grain terminal in sale of its shares to former CWB
- Represented government organization in outsourcing its electronic land title system to an external service provider
- Represented local water utility board that constructed water distribution system to supply water to rural municipalities
From 2006 to 2018, Chris was one of Robertson Stromberg LLP’s managing partners. In 2016, he was honoured with the King’s Counsel designation.
Before joining Robertson Stromberg in 2000, Chris was an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law. Prior to that, Chris practiced corporate-commercial litigation in Toronto. He obtained his Articles of Clerkship at Lang Michener (now part of McMillan LLP) in Toronto and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990.
