Cherie Dessauer Nobles is special counsel in Fishman Haygood’s Litigation Section. She works in the firm’s bankruptcy practice group and concentrates on debtor and creditor rights.
Cherie has experience in representing large, complex companies and small companies in bankruptcy. Her experience includes representation of debtors, trustees, unsecured creditors’ committees, and creditors in commercial bankruptcy and workout business cases in chapter 11 and chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings.
As part of the firm's bankruptcy team, Cherie has had significant experience in major bankruptcy cases successfully representing creditors’ committees in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, including Energy XXI, Louisiana Heart Hospital, Acadiana Management Group, Petroquest Energy and Seahawk Drilling, debtors, like Knight Energy Holdings and Harvest Oil & Gas, and chapter 11 trustees, including the chapter 11 trustees for Westbank Holdings and its affiliated entities and Chateau Creole. The team has been a key participant in bankruptcy cases and workouts across the country.
Recently, Cherie was part of the Fishman Haygood team retained to defend TD Financial against potential preference actions in the bankruptcy case of Thermaldyne, LLC (Case No. 22-10053) in the United States Bankruptcy Court (Middle District of Louisiana). In March 2024, the case successfully concluded with no payment by firm’s client.
Cherie also served as part of the Fishman Haygood team that provided bankruptcy counsel to the law firm Clark, Love & Hutson (“CLH”), which is a member of the Plaintiff Steering Committee representing approximately 15,000 claimants in the pending multidistrict 3M Combat Arms Earplug Products liability litigation (the largest MDL ever) at the center of the bankruptcy cases filed by Aearo Technologies LLC and six affiliated debtors on July 26, 2022. On Aug. 26, 2022, after a days-long trial, the United States Bankruptcy Judge Jeffrey Graham of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana - Indianapolis Division ruled in favor of CLH’s clients and similarly situated military veterans with hearing loss claims related to 3M earplugs. This was a landmark ruling that allowed the claimants to continue the multidistrict litigation against 3M, a significant victory for the claimants. As a result, 3M and the claimants have recently reached a landmark settlement of the MDL.
Cherie is the former co-chair of the Louisiana chapter of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), and she recently served as committee chair for the bankruptcy section of the New Orleans Bar Association.
She is also a frequent speaker on bankruptcy issues, and most recently served as a panelist at the 28th and 27th Louisiana State University Annual Bankruptcy Law Conferences.
Ranked by Chambers and Partners in Bankruptcy/Restructuring, Cherie is noted to be “…an excellent lawyer and an absolute professional in all aspects." In 2025, she was recognized by Super Lawyers as among the Top 25 Louisiana Women Attorneys. For the past three years, Cherie has been named to Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers.
