Biography

Charles Buist is a trial attorney licensed to practice law in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. He is a co-founder of Spetsas Buist Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, a personal injury law firm he established with his law partner, Nicholas Spetsas, in Orlando, Florida in 2021. Charles focuses his practice on representing plaintiffs in complex personal injury and medical malpractice litigation, namely cases involving wrongful death, amusement park accidents, roller coaster accidents, 18-Wheeler and Semi Truck Accidents, automobile accidents, and treatment facility suicide claims.

Charles’s commitment to representing injured individuals is rooted in personal experience. As a child, his family was involved in a serious automobile accident caused by a vehicle defect. Both of his parents suffered significant injuries, and the aftermath of the collision permanently changed his family’s life. Witnessing the physical, emotional, and financial impact of a serious accident at a young age continues to influence his approach to representing clients who have been harmed by negligence.

Raised by his father, Dr. Buist, a dentist, Charles spent much of his early life in a dental office and began working as a dental assistant at a young age. Through this experience, he observed the long-term effects traumatic injuries can have on a person’s health, appearance, and quality of life. Many patients sought treatment after suffering injuries caused by serious accidents and crashes, giving Charles an early understanding of how serious injuries can affect individuals and families for years after they happen.

These experiences helped shape Charles’s decision to pursue a legal career focused on advocating for injured people. Today, he represents plaintiffs in wrongful death and personal injury cases. Based in Orlando, Florida, Charles works with individuals and families all over the country through his extensive network of notable personal injury trial lawyers.

At Spetsas Buist Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, the lawyers will take a case to trial. Charles is committed to making sure his clients get justice.

Q&A

Our mission at Spetsas Buist is to build a lasting relationship with every client we serve. In order to do that, we have to do the best work we possibly can and arm ourselves with the most up-to-date knowledge. However, our firm is unique because we go above and beyond to get to know our clients and build a relationship.

Clients often ask how long it will take to get their case resolved. The answer is always, "it depends." Every case is different, and how long it will take to resolve a case will often depend on:

  • The insurance company and coverage available;
  • The defense lawyers;
  • The severity of injuries; and
  • The degree to which the defendant is liable.

Ultimately, for a client to get proper value, a case may need to proceed into litigation, or it may need to go to trial. When a case goes into litigation, it can take a year or more to resolve.

Working with and getting to know people who are going through a rough time in life is both rewarding and challenging. When another human being is in pain, you want to fix it, and you want to fix it now. You want to take their pain away. You want them to have joy and happiness. Most of the time, we can't take the pain away. All we can do is try to get people justice for what they've been through and do our best to hold negligent people and companies accountable. If we can turn someone's story of pain and despair into a story of redemption--if we can make the world a safer place for others--we've done our job. Nevertheless, you can't go back in time and stop whatever bad thing that happened from happening.

When I was young, I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Motley several times. He was one of the more famous trial lawyers in the country and one of the best lawyers ever. The stories I heard him tell and they way he told those stories made me want to be a lawyer. His ability to communicate was incredible, and it inspired me to want to learn the same skills.

After law school, I had the opportunity to clerk for two different Federal judges: Judge Joseph F. Anderson at the US District Court and Judge David R. Duncan at the US Bankruptcy Court. These two brilliant gentlemen had a profound impact on my life and taught me so much about what it means to be a good lawyer.

We are currently Florida counsel for Trial Lawyers for Justice. We've had the opportunity to build relationships with Nicholas Rowley and Jakob Norman, two of the best lawyers in the world, in my humble opinion. Their mentorship has allowed us to hone our skills and see further than we've ever been able to see before.
