Cameron Pope is a seasoned appellate specialist and Partner at Hicks Thomas LLP. After beginning his legal career as a federal law clerk, he spent over two decades in the appellate litigation group of a global law firm before joining Hicks Thomas in 2024.
Mr. Pope represents clients in high-stakes appeals across a wide array of industries, including healthcare, energy, employment benefits, and toxic torts. His appellate experience is both broad and deep, and he has consistently secured favorable outcomes in complex and high-value cases. Notably, he successfully reversed a multi-million-dollar jury verdict in favor of a medical school in a malpractice appeal. He also defended a software developer in a “death penalty” sanctions appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit involving trade-secret claims in the oil and gas industry. His energy-related work includes representing an oil-and-gas client in the Fifth Circuit and obtaining appellate reversal in a personal injury case stemming from an offshore rig accident. In another significant Fifth Circuit victory, he prevailed on behalf of an oil-and-gas company in a $650 million mutual-interest dispute in the Bakken shale. Mr. Pope has also represented a river authority in multiple appeals tied to flood-damage claims following Hurricane Harvey.
Mr. Pope is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fifth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits; all U.S. District Courts in Texas; and the State Bar of Texas. He has long been recognized as a leader in his field, having been named a Benchmark “Litigation Star” in Texas from 2021 through 2025, following several years of recognition as a “Future Star” from 2014 to 2020. He is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
Beyond his legal practice, Mr. Pope serves as Treasurer of The Joy School Endowment Fund, which supports educational programs for children with learning differences.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center, where he served as Chief Notes & Comments Editor for the Houston Law Review. Prior to law school, he received an M.A. in English from the University of Houston in 1998 and a B.A. with honors from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1994. Mr. Pope is an active member of both the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section and the Houston Bar Association.
