Bryan Millman

Bryan Millman provides practical legal advice to clients in the tax-exempt sector. Registered charities, not-for-profit organizations, professional bodies and other tax-exempt entities rely on his advice to fulfill their respective missions.

Bryan assists his clients on a variety of matters that include charitable registration, governance, corporate structuring and restructuring, social enterprise, regulatory compliance, fundraising and tax. In addition, Bryan counsels donors on philanthropic planning by advising on the implementation of charitable gifts.

Bryan has assisted clients on various matters, including:

• Supporting organizations in navigating the process to become, and maintain their status as, registered charities
• Assisting high-net-worth individuals structure their donations to registered charities
• Drafting or revising governance documents, bylaws, resolutions, related policies for registered charities and non-profit organizations
• Helping not-for-profits with complementary purposes and activities merge their operations into a single, more efficient organization
• Assisting charities with business activities to “spin” the business out into a wholly owned subsidiary company

Bryan is a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Charity and Not-for-Profit Law Executive and is currently co-chair of its annual Charity Law Symposium. Bryan is also a past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia Charities and Not-for-Profit Law Subsection Executive.
