Biography

Brent Steinberg is a Florida Bar board-certified appellate specialist – a distinction achieved by only 216 of the more than 100,000 members of the Florida Bar. He handles catastrophic injury, insurance bad faith, legal malpractice and insurance coverage cases throughout Florida and Georgia, at both the trial and appellate levels.

Mr. Steinberg began his employment with Swope, Rodante, Newsome & Steinberg as a law clerk in 2009, joined the firm full time after graduating law school in 2010, and became a partner in 2018.

He has served as lead appellate counsel in cases at the Florida Supreme Court, all six of Florida’s District Courts of Appeal, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In 2022, he argued and won two important insurance bad faith appeals at the Eleventh Circuit.

Mr. Steinberg has also served as trial counsel in several multimillion-dollar cases, including a $30.1 million traumatic brain injury case – the 6th highest personal injury verdict in Florida in 2019.

Mr. Steinberg successfully defended that verdict in the Florida Supreme Court in 2023. Mr. Steinberg is a proud double Gator, earning his Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Florida in 2007, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2010. While at UF Law, he was a member of the Florida Law Review, in which he was published, and he received six “Book Awards” for the highest-class grade.

Mr. Steinberg has an AV rating (the highest possible) by Martindale-Hubbell, the oldest reviewing agency in the country. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers Magazine, The National Trial Lawyers, and the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. He has also received multiple awards from the Florida Justice Association (“FJA”), including the 2023 S. Victor Tipton award for superior achievement in legal writing.

In 2023, Mr. Steinberg was appointed to the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee, where he evaluates and recommends proposed changes to the Rules to the Supreme Court of Florida. He also presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Justice Association and is an elected officer of the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association.

Mr. Steinberg frequently represents the interests of insurance consumers and accident victims against Big Insurance and other special interest groups in Tallahassee. He presently serves as Chair of the FJA’s Legislative Committee on Auto Insurance and Insurance Bad Faith. Over the past 8 years, Mr. Steinberg has volunteered thousands of hours drafting bills, authoring white papers and lobbying state legislators on a multitude of insurance and civil justice issues.

He is a frequent lecturer on insurance and tort issues and authored a chapter titled “Autonomous Vehicles and Transportation Network Companies” in Florida Automobile Insurance Law, published by the Florida Bar in 2020 and 2022. He also authors a bi-monthly column in the FJA Journal titled “Tips for Auto Practitioners.”

His greatest achievement, however, is being married to his amazing wife, Tara, and father to their two young children.
