Benton Williamson structures complex deals efficiently to meet his clients’ goals.
Mr. Williamson is a leader in real estate law. He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, recognized in South Carolina Super Lawyers 2016 - Real Estate, included in The Best Lawyers in America© 2017 in the field of Real Estate Law.
He has closed more than 1,000 transactions and financings for projects ranging from agricultural lands to retail shopping centers to industrial facilities. Throughout over 30 years of practice, he has become known for efficiently designing and closing transactions that satisfy his clients’ business and financial concerns.
His reputation extends well beyond South Carolina. He advises multi-national companies and investors on environmental, leasing and acquisition issues in numerous states and foreign countries.
- Mr. Williamson assisted an international corporation in dealing with problems at an environmentally challenged manufacturing facility, including environmental, land-use and financing issues.
- He assisted a national bank in securing numerous sites involving lease, purchase, land-use and environmental issues.
- He helped a national agricultural-based corporation secure financing and, ultimately, with the sale of its assets.
Mr. Williamson is a frequent speaker at the South Carolina Bar and trade groups on real estate topics and related financing issues, and has been chair of the SC Bar Real Estate Practices Section.
He is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law teaching real estate finance.
He is very active in the Columbia community, engaged in a range of community, religious and civic organizations.
He served on Still Hopes Retirement Home’s board of trustees for many years and was chair for two years.
He also chaired the board of trustees for the Congaree Land Trust and the Gravatt Camp and Conferfence Center.
He is a former member of the board of trustees for the University of the South (Sewanee).
