Professional AccomplishmentsBen is dedicated to legal education and contributes significantly to the legal profession. He has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. His leadership and dedication have been acknowledged with the Rising Star award from the Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. Ben also shares his knowledge as an Adjunct Professor at Stetson University College of Law, teaching courses on Trusts and Estates as well as Florida Constitutional Law. Recognized as part of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite for his work in wills, trusts, and estates, Ben also engages actively in the Florida Bar’s Probate Rules Committee by appointment. As a frequent speaker, he tackles topics related to estate administration, planning, and litigation. Furthermore, he serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Florida Law Center Association.
Community LeadershipKnown for his dedication to community service, Ben has a passion for fostering connections and building relationships. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2022 for the sixty-eighth district in Pinellas County. In the state Legislature, Ben advocated for environmental stewardship and resiliency efforts to address climate change impacts. He held significant roles as the ranking minority member on the House Judiciary Committee and a member of the House Appropriations Committee. Recognized by his legislative peers for consensus-building, Ben was committed to his legislative endeavors and constituent services.
Currently, Ben is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic and is actively involved with the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership. His past board memberships include the Pinellas County Urban League and Temple Beth-El. As an alum of Leadership Florida, Ben has also contributed to its Board of Directors.
Prior Work ExperienceBefore joining The Diamond Law Firm PA, Ben practiced at the national firm Akerman Senterfitt. He accumulated invaluable experience in Tallahassee as an attorney for Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Alex Sink, eventually serving as General Counsel to the Chief Financial Officer and the Florida Department of Financial Services. In this role, he led a team of over 60 attorneys, overseeing a wide array of legal and regulatory matters. Prior to his state government service, Ben served as a law clerk to the Honorable Emmett Ripley Cox on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
