Q&A

My practice focuses on helping people whose lives have been changed by serious injuries. I try to approach every case the way my mentors, Rob and Troy, taught me: treat clients like people, not files.

One thing that is important to me is building genuine relationships with clients. When someone has been injured through no fault of their own, they are often dealing with uncertainty, stress, and challenges that extend far beyond the legal case. I try to be accessible, responsive, and mindful of what they are going through.

One of the most meaningful moments in my career came when a former client contacted me several years after her case had resolved. She had suffered a traumatic brain injury and faced significant challenges after the accident. In her message, she shared that she had rebuilt her life, found happiness, and achieved things she once believed would be impossible. She also thanked our team for helping her access the treatment and support she needed during her recovery.

For me, that message captured what makes this work rewarding. The legal result matters, but what matters most is helping people move forward and build a future they may not have thought was possible.

The two questions I hear most often are: "How long will my case take?" and "What is my case worth?"

The honest answer is that neither question can be answered with certainty at the beginning of a serious injury case. Recovery takes time, and until we understand a client's long-term prognosis, future care needs, and ability to return to work, it is impossible to accurately assess the value of a claim.

Another common concern is whether a client's future will be financially secure. While I can never promise a result, I can promise that we will do everything possible to maximize the compensation available and secure the resources needed to support our clients and their families moving forward.

One of the most memorable moments from the past year was not a settlement or a trial result; it was hearing from a former client.

Several years ago, I represented a young woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motor vehicle collision. Her case resolved successfully, but as is often the case with brain injuries, the challenges extended well beyond the legal process.

This past year, she reached out to share that she had built a new life abroad, was thriving, and had become engaged. Hearing how far she had come was incredibly rewarding. It was a reminder that while legal results matter, the ultimate goal is helping people move forward and live fulfilling lives after a serious injury.

One of the greatest challenges in my practice is representing people with traumatic brain injuries. Brain injuries are often invisible, and many of the daily struggles a person experiences are not immediately apparent to others.

Part of my role is helping insurers, opposing counsel, and sometimes juries understand the very real impact these injuries can have on a person's relationships, career, and quality of life.

Another challenge is the time it takes to resolve serious injury claims. I wish cases could be resolved more quickly, but many factors are outside our control. My goal is always to help clients through that process while ensuring their case is thoroughly prepared and positioned for the best possible outcome.

Early in my career, I met a young person who had suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury while playing hockey. The medical treatment had done all it could, and the focus shifted to helping that individual adapt to a completely different future.

Seeing the significant impact a serious injury can have on a young person's life, and recognizing the important role lawyers can play in securing the resources and support needed for that future, had a lasting impact on me. It reinforced my desire to work in a field where I could help people facing life-changing challenges.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, staying active through sports, and getting outdoors whenever I can. Depending on the season, that might mean skiing, playing tennis, or following soccer.

I also enjoy reading and learning about a wide range of topics, which helps me maintain perspective and balance outside the practice of law.
