About Ben
Ben is a specialist in the areas of employment and safety. Ben’s work in these areas sees him involved in a broad range of matters , including employment and industrial disputes, enterprise agreement negotiations, safety incidents and prosecutions, workplace investigations, and building defect disputes.
What he does
Ben is a passionate litigator and regularly appears on behalf of clients in a variety of jurisdictions, including the Federal Court, the Supreme Court, the District Court, the Fair Work Commission, the Coroner’s Court and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Ben has also appeared as prosecutor in regulatory matters on behalf of statutory authorities. Ben works closely with his clients to advise them about, and assist them to manage, the various legal issues that come up in the workplace. Ben also advises clients about statutory claims and claims in negligence against builders and developers arising in connection with defective home building work.

Ben works with a broad range of clients, including medium-to-large sized corporations, Commonwealth and State governmental and statutory authorities, and owners corporations.
Qualifications
Ben has a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Communications (majoring in Journalism) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Life before Sparkes
Ben worked as an Associate to a Member of the Fair Work Commission and, before that, at a commercial law firm, Diamond Conway Lawyers. Ben also worked at community legal organisations, including Justice Connect and the Shopfront Youth Legal Centre.
Life outside of Sparkes
Ben is a passionate martial artist, which is hard to reconcile with his undeniable “law nerd” exterior. His passion has led him to competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and teaching morning classes starting at 6 am, which also explains Ben’s addiction to coffee.
