Barbara’s practice includes all areas of real estate law and estate planning and administration.
She has experience in executing complex real estate, development and commercially driven projects. She also provided advice to a wide variety of institutions in the financial services sector, as well as municipalities, in real estate and financing transactions.
In addition, Barbara has been involved in public-private partnership projects working together with teams of lenders, developers, municipal representatives, engineers and surveyors to negotiate and structure the financing, construction, and operation of various land development and infrastructure projects including recreational facilities, housing projects and water and sewer systems.
Her experience in municipal and planning law is deep. She has represented municipal corporations as well as private developers in matters involving site plan, subdivision and condominium development work, real property and leasing transactions, municipal planning and zoning matters, and financing transactions. She has represented clients at land tribunals, committees of adjustment, and appeared before municipal council meetings on planning and development matters. She also assists clients in condominium-related matters, including providing advice to developers, condominium corporations, management companies and unit owners.
A significant part of her practice also includes estate planning including the preparation of wills and powers of attorneys, trusts, succession planning and estate administration.
Barbara also acts for private charities and not-for-profit organizations, including academic institutions, religious and cultural organizations, long-term health care institutions, and trade and industry organizations.
Barbara attended Carleton University, where she received a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law and English in 1982. She earned her law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1985.
Community involvement is important to Barbara. She has served as an executive committee member of the Beacon Hill North Community Association, an executive member and novice convenor for the Gloucester Centre Minor Hockey Association, and a representative on the Accommodation Review Committee of the Beacon Hill East Ottawa Secondary School Accommodation Study, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
